James Anthony Wolff, b. 1982

James Anthony Wolff is a highly accomplished attorney and entrepreneur specializing in emerging technologies, AI law, and space governance. He currently serves as Counsel and Chair of the Emerging Technologies Law Group at Warshaw Burstein, LLP, a Tier 1 mid-market law firm recognized for its corporate transactional services, including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, and corporate governance. James combines legal expertise with strategic insight to address the unique challenges of innovative tech sectors.

In his career, James has held influential roles across several prominent organizations. He previously worked as a Senior Associate Attorney at Sobel Pevzner, LLC, where he focused on corporate transactions and litigation, building a strong foundation in Corporate Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Contract Law. He has also served as a Strategic Advisor to INNOVO, promoting clean technologies for net-zero goals, and to Space Initiatives Inc., where he supported the development of femtospacecraft for Earth observation. His advisory roles extend to Immortal Data Inc., where he helped develop proprietary data storage for aerospace applications, and Orbital Assembly, where he co-founded and advised on projects such as the Errant Object Retrieval (EOR) drone program and the rotating orbital Voyager Station.

James is also a co-founder of Deep Space Industries, where he led initiatives in deep space exploration and asteroid mining from 2013 to 2018. In 2023 Space Initiatives Inc., a company he cofounded, received the NASA Entrepreneur's Challenge award, and in 2024 the same company received a NASA NIAC Phase 1 award for the first interstellar mission architecture study.

James has also been an Executive Board Member at-Large for the United Nations Association since 2016, focusing on international cooperation, human rights, and sustainable development. He is also active with the New York City Bar Association, having served as a UN Committee Member from 2016 to 2023, where he contributed research and proposals for UN-related topics. As a longtime advocate for space policy, he was the Political Advocacy Coordinator for the Mars Society, concentrating on sustainability technologies, and served as a Board Advisor for SpaceGAMBIT, supporting public outreach for space exploration. He was recently appointed as a National Space Society Board of Director in 2024.

James holds a Juris Doctorate from New York Law School, where he specialized in Corporate Law, IP, and Regulation, and a Bachelor of Arts in Composition from The Johns Hopkins University. His early career included a legal externship at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, where he conducted research on financial law and regulatory compliance under Dodd-Frank, and at Nomura, where he worked on regulatory policy for CFTC and SEC implementation. His interdisciplinary background uniquely positions him to advise on the evolving legal needs of technology and space-focused enterprises. as Counsel and Practice Chair of the Emerging Technologies Law Group at Warshaw Burstein LLP, James remains committed to shaping a future where innovation through the discharge of expert legal services.
